Liver plays an important role in many body functions. Its main functions are to metabolize most of the nutrients which are absorbed by the intestine, store nutrients, produce proteins, detoxify blood by removing toxicants and potentially harmful chemicals from the bloodstream and treating them chemically so these can be excreted by G.I. Tract or urinary system. A variety of illnesses may affect the liver and sufferer may have the symptoms of weight loss, nausea, vomiting and yellow discoloration of the skin (Janudice). These symptoms require immediate medical attention.

Jaundice, also known as icterus is the yellowing of the skin and eyes. The whites of the eyes become yellow, urine darkens and the colour of stool becomes lighter than normal. Jaundice occurs when the liver and or the gall bladder is not working properly or when a bile duct is blocked. It is caused by too much bilirubin (build-up of bile waste products) in the blood.

Description

Salt of Tamarix:It has a therapeutic value in the treatment of hepatic and biliary disorders, especially jaundice. Extensive clinical trials have established the efficacy of Icterene in jaundice. It has also been found that Icterene exerts good results in the jaundice of new born. Apart from its action on hepatic cells and biliary passage, Icterene improves the hepatic functions. It acts as a diaphoretic and diuretic medicine too.

Indications

Nausea, Vomiting, Right upper quadrant abdominal pain and Jaundice.

Dosage:

Adults: 2 tablets three times a day for three days are enough to bring about therapeutic result. In severe cases 8 tablets in 24 hours may be given in divided doses without any harm. For sufficient satisfactory response, further course of three days may be given to the patient with usual dosage schedule. Plenty of drinks, fresh sugarcane juice and other fruit juices should be taken during the course of treatment.

Children: The dosage may be adjusted according to the age after consulting tabib.

Precaution:

Meat and fats should be avoided during the treatment.
