Iron is an essential constituent of the red blood cells, where it is present in the form of hemoglobin. It is also present in muscles, myoglobin, and certain respiratory pigments, which are essential to life and body tissues. The daily iron requirement of an adult is 15 to 20 mg. The requirement becomes high during pregnancy. The main use of iron is in the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia. Inadequate red blood cells, or hemoglobin, characterize the condition known as anemia.
Anemia is much more common among females than in males. Around 10% of girls have anemia at the age of 15, while in adult life the incidence is over 30% between the ages of 30 and 40, around 20% at the age of 50, and around 30% at the age of 70.
Among males, the incidence is under 5% until the age of 50 years, and it then rises up to 20% at the age of 70 years.
Description
Ferrous sulfate is easily absorbable and a lesser gastric irritant due to its natural affinity. Ferrous iron (ferrous sulphate) is much better absorbed than ferric iron (e.g., ferric citrate).
Punica granatum (concentrate): It is a rich source of vitamins and is particularly high in vitamin A, C, E, and folic acid. The major health benefit of pomegranate is that it helps to prevent and control anemic conditions like weakness, dizziness, and fatigue, as it provides support to the blood by supplying it with iron. The best benefit of pomegranate is its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
Citrus limon (juice): Limon, being a citrus fruit, fights against infection. It helps in the production of WBC’s and antibodies in the blood, which attack the invading microorganisms and prevent infection. It is used to prevent scurvy. It is an excellent tonic and beneficial for invalids, especially those suffering from anemia, hepatic, cardiac, gum, and teeth troubles.
Indications
Additionally, nutritional iron deficiency may lead to anemia. Moreover, it can cause complications during pregnancy and lactation. Furthermore, it is associated with inflammatory disease and menorrhagia.
